As a documentary wedding photographer, telling the story through pictures usually begins with the preparation of the bride and her bridesmaids. I like to photograph from about a hour before the bride gets into her dress, to give me enough time to get the shots with the makeup artist and hairdresser. I find it's a great way for everyone to get used to having a photographer around.
Hair and make up often lend themselves to some good moments during the preparations and during this hour I will be looking to get some pictures of the wedding dress, shoes and flowers.
Once the bride has finished getting ready, this is the time where I look to capture the emotional interaction between the bride and her bridesmaids and of course her parents - being ready and one step ahead is key. Finally one of the most important shots of the day - the brides portrait which only has to take a couple of minutes - getting an amazing picture of a bride just before she is about to leave for the ceremony always put's a smile on my face.
